Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 2nd Edition. Hardcover with DJ. blue/gray cloth spine with maroon boards. Binding good and tight. DJ clean and complete, though faded from age. Title page and Copyright page dated 1947. Stated First Edition. 489 pages. All clean and appropriate for carefully kept… book of this age. This extraordinary copy has three inscriptions on the front endpaper. First, it is signed and inscribed by Van Wyck Brooks, "For the Clarks with thanks of Helen and Polly, Van Wyck Brooks. November 1947." Below that inscription it is signed by Helen Keller, who has written, "With Loving Greetings from, Helen Keller. Christmas 1947." She has signed and inscribed in her unmistakeable boxy letters, in pencil. Finally, it is signed by Polly Thomson, her secretary and companion for many decades. Brooks and Keller were friends and neighbors for many years; Brooks would go on to write a popular biography of Keller in 1956. This wonderful volume with all their signatures offers a glimpse into the community life in their Connecticut neighborhood, joining their names on this Christmas gift for another friend. The recipients are Cameron and Agnes Clark. He was the architect who designed the Keller House; she was a landscape architect. This is the only book we've seen (other than another we got from the same collection) that is signed by Both Keller and Thomson. The Brooks signature is a nice bonus as well.
