Hardbound. Condition: Very Good. Quarto in dust jacket, map, 96 pp., duotone photos throughout Text is in French, English and Yiddish. Preface by Serge Klarsfeld. Articles are "On Reading Photographic Images," Anne Grynberg and "From Shtetl to Kolkhoz: The Tradesmen and Farmers of Yiddishland (1921-1938)," Emmanuelle Polack. Featuring photos reproduced from original glass plates in the Paris archive of ORT. The images were taken to serve the fund-raising purposes of ORT in the west and the propaganda purposes of the Soviet and Romanian governments. Nevertheless, they are a rare source of images of rural Jewish life in those places and that time.
