Frege zu überbringen, allein Sie waren nicht da, und ich eile, Ihnen zu sagen, daß Sie heute d. 15. August nach 6 Uhr im Wagen abgeholt werden sollen, um mit nach… Abt-Naundorf zu fahren. Sie werden das ganze Fregesche Theaterpersonal daselbst antreffen. Schlagen Sie es ja nicht ab, die Freges bitten sehr um ihre liebe Gesellschaft [.]". Pohlenz war Nachfolger von Johann Schulz als Direktor der Gewandhauskonzerte in Leipzig, als welcher er die 50-Jahrfeier 1831 ausrichtete und die erste Aufführung einer Sinfonie in C-Dur von Richard Wagner (1832) ermöglichte. 1835 wurde er seines Amtes enthoben und Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy als Nachfolger bestellt. Als Komponist schuf Pohlenz einige seinerzeit bekannte Lieder (wie das Matrosenlied" oder Der kleine Tambour Veit"), wurde aber vor allem als Gesangslehrer bekannt. Die Sopranistin Livia Frege (18181891) und ihr Gatte Woldemar unterhielten in Leipzig einen künstlerischen Salon, in dem regelmäßig Musiker wie Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy verkehrten und wo sie einen Chor mit 50 Mitgliedern zu regelmäßigen Übungen versammelte.
