Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Small 8vo. Hardcover. Pp. 89. First Edition. In very good condition, with minor shelf-wear to the dust-jacket such as small marks and slight creasing top and bottom of spine. Black cloth boards also in good condition with minor scuffs and corners sti…ll sharp. Pages themselves are clean and unmarked. Previous owner's bookplate on front end-paper. Some mjnor creases in the corner of some pages but no significant marks or creasing. Robert Graves and Joshua Podro maintain that Jesus, though officially crucified in A.D. 30, escaped alive, probably to Parthia, and in A.D. 35 was seen on the road to Damascus by St. Paul - who had been sent there to bring Him back for a second Crucifixion. What eventually became of Jesus, they leave an open question; critically discussing Moslem and pre-Moslem accounts of His appearance in India, about A.D. 50, and of His burial by St. Thomas at Sringar not later than the year A.D. 72. Robert Graves was an English poet, historical novelist and critic. His father was Alfred Perceval Graves, a celebrated Irish poet and figure in the Gaelic revival; they were both Celticists and students of Irish mythology. Graves produced more than 140 works in his lifetime.

Add to basketFirst edition. xii, 175pp, [1]. Original publisher's black cloth, lettered in gilt, printed paper dustwrapper. Very minor shelf-wear, dustwrapper dulled and sunned. Internally immaculate, A near fine copy. Inked inscription to FFEP: 'To Leanne and Frank / with love / Joshua / 3 March 1955'. The first edition of a summary of the…conclusions of Robert Graves (1895-1985) - with the assistance of expert on Hebrao-Aramaic aspects of primitive Christianity Joshua Podro - regarding the Gospel of the Nazarenes, the traditional but hypothetical name given by scholars to distinguish references to, or citations of, non- canonical Jewish-Christian Gospels extant in patristic writings. The exhaustive, and often speculative, reconstruction was previously set forth in the author's substantial unabridged Nazarene Gospel Restored (1954). Size: 8vo.
