Volumes I-III of the original four volumes. Plutarch'sLivesis arguably his most famous work. It is a series of biographies of famous Greeks and Romans arranged in pairs in order to highlight their common moral virtues and vices. This work led Plutarch to the reputation of one of the earliest moral philosophers due to his comparisons and discussion of moral character. Plutarch was a Greek biographer and essayist. His surviving works were in Greek although intended for both Greek and Roman writers. Alexis Pierron was a French Hellenist. He is best known for hisHistory of Greek LiteratureandHistory of Roman Literature.He also translated many of the Classic texts into French such as those of Aristotle, Aeschylus and Marcus Aurelius.
