In 1994 vertrekt het fotografenechtpaar Charlie Russell en Maureen Enns naar het schiereiland Kamtsjatka in het noordoosten van Rusland. Ze brengen er de zomer door in een beschermd natuurgebied dat 's werelds grootste populatie bruine beren kent. De vijf zomers daarna keren zij er telkens naartoe terug. De beren raken aan hun aanwezigheid gewend en durven contact te zoeken. Hoewel ze geen toestemming krijgen van de autoriteiten, nemen Russell en Enns drie verweesde jongen mee en leren hen voedsel verzamelen, zodat ze later zelfstandig kunnen overleven. Grizzly laat zien hoe de mens weer in contact kan komen met de natuur en vreedzaam kan samenleven met wilde dieren, doordat er een basis van wederzijds respect tussen beide groepen ontstaat. Hoewel mens en beer niet dezelfde taal beheersen, is er toch sprake van communicatie.…
