    8vo. 42, [4] pp., printed in orange & black. With historiated vignettes, head- & tail-pieces in orange & black, decorated initials. Orange pictorial lithograph boards, cover art executed by Tiffany & Co., illust. of Washington Hotel on back cover (very minor edgewear to lower fore-edge, minor wear to corners, offset toning on fore-edges of pastedowns from d.j., slight chipping head of spine), w/ d.j. printed thick blown wrapper, w/ title & Society armorial lozenge logo at right corner (minor edgewear), still VG/VG mostly uncut & unopened copy. First edition of this 50th Anniversary celebration which featured an address by Cornelius Vanderbilt as President in 1885, along with addresses and letters of other members recounting the Dutch heritage of New York City. Founded originally in 1835 by Washington Irving and John Jacob Astor with other prominent New Yorkers, the society worked to preserve the early history of the city, and continues to preserve historical and genealogical records of New Amsterdam, and British-ruled New York. Very scarce in original dustjacket.
