Publisher's dark green cloth to boards with blind embossing to upper and lower. Gilt titles and tooling to spine. Leaves are toned throughout with light foxing and various marks, including a dark stain to page 262. Gutter is visible in a few areas. Owner inscription in pencil to a preliminary. Toning to edges and endpapers, front flyleaf cancelled. Cloth binding is rubbed, lightly marked, and frayed to extremities. Overall, very good. John Phin, enticed by a wide variety of subjects, sought to reconcile Christianity with nineteenth-century science with works such as his 'Natural History of Hell' and 'The Chemical History of the Six Days of Creation.'
