(tables) Rare exemplaire inconnu de Tchemerzine qui signale pour cette édition d'autres éditeurs (Lamy, Sommaville, Clousier, Besongne, Maucroy) mais non Cotinet. A la différence de la collation donnée par Tchemerzine (III, 470), notre exemplaire contient 12 ff. nn. ch. (et non pas 11). La signature en bas du douzième f. non chiffré laisse penser qu'un second titre suivait, qui fut remplacé dans notre exemplaire par un portrait du XIXe de Louis XI. Etat satisfaisant (fente en mors, mq. en coiffes, derniers ff. parfois un peu courts de marge) Langue: Français.

Significant spotting to f.f.e.p. verso, 1st blank, and title page with less spotting to remaining leaves and r.f.e.p. verso. Tiny, dark dampstains in varying sizes to bottom edges of a few vol. 1 leaves. Single leaf in vol. 1 shows some light scraping to bottom edge. Marble-ized end papers and pastedowns with faint, small patches of scraping to top of front pastedown right of center. Small, oval stamped leather label affixed to front pastedown center. Light scraping along edges and forecorners of boards with slightest rubbing to gilded stamping. More significant rubbing along spine ends and joints with slight rubbing to gilded stamping top spine. Signed manuscript note dated from: "Malta, 2 December 1839" laid-down on th…e front pastedown, identifying this copy as belonging to: "the Library of the Knights of Malta of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem." Two small laid-paper strips are pasted over an early ownership signature on the title page to the left and right of the woodcut vignette. The pastepaper binding is frayed at the edges and torn along the front joint, both free endpapers are nearly detached, modest intermittent old dampstaining and some worming to the top margin, good. The scarce, first Italian edition of Commynes celebrated *Mémoires* in a contemporary binding, and with a compelling provenance.

Celui-ci donna à l'ouvrage le titre de "Mémoires", le divisa en huit livres et réorganisa les chapitres. Plus exacte que les précédentes, établie d'après une copie du manuscrit original, confrontée aux historiographes et chroniqueurs et dotée d'un appareil critique, cette recension demeura longtemps le texte de référence.Epitre de Denys Sauvage à Henri II; avertissement aux lecteurs; sommaire; sommaire de la vie de messire Angelo Cattho, archevêque de Vienne; prologue. Table des chapitres en fin.L'impression de Guillaume Morel, imprimeur du Roi, se distingue par une composition ample et lisible en caractères romains.
