Contact seller5-star sellerRare 1973 limited-edition color art print of Mark Chadwick's "St Andrews â" Home of Golf" showing the approach to the 18th hole on the "Old Course." Boldly signed by twenty-one Open Champions, the autographs were obtained in person by the owner at later dates in black felt tip. The autographs include: Rory McIlroy, Gary Player,…Arnold Palmer, Peter Thomson (won 5 times), David Duval, Roberto de Vicenzo, Ernie Els (signed twice), Todd Hamilton, Ian Baker-Finch, Stewart Cink, Ben Curtis, Justin Leonard, Mark O'Meara, Sandy Lyle, Bob Charles, Paul Lawrie, Tony Jacklin, Louis Oosthuizen, Padraig Harrington, Mark Calcavecchia and Tom Lehman. Double matted. In near fine condition with creasing to the upper and lower portions. The piece measures 19.25 inches by 20.5 inches. The Open Championship, founded in 1860 and commonly referred to as "The Open" or, particularly in the United States, "the British Open," is the oldest of golf's four major championships and the only one contested outside the United States. Organised by the R&A, the tournament is distinguished by its rotation among a fixed group of links courses across the United Kingdom - including the Old Course at St Andrews, Royal Birkdale, and Carnoustie - where the firm, undulating coastal terrain and unpredictable maritime weather impose demands markedly different from the parkland courses typical of other majors. The winner receives the Claret Jug, formally the Golf Champion Trophy, and the title "Champion Golfer of the Year." Its champions trace the arc of the modern game: the Australian Peter Thomson, who claimed five titles during the 1950s and 1960s; Arnold Palmer, whose victories in 1961 and 1962 helped restore American participation and elevate the championship's international prestige; Gary Player of South Africa, a three-time winner across three decades; and, more recently, Rory McIlroy, who secured the Claret Jug at Royal Liverpool in 2014. Beyond its competitive significance, the championship occupies a foundational place in the sport's history, having established many of the conventions of professional tournament golf.
