Francois Mauriac introduces the theme and states the problem in his preface. The exposition by Ducattillon consists of Marxist doctrine in four sections: dialectical materialism, the class war, the Communist conception of property and the Communist attitude to religion. Alexandre Marc contributes an account of the Bolshevik treatment of religion in Russia. Nicolas Berdyaev discusses Marxism and human personality; Denis Rougemont contrasts the Communist plan for changing the world with the Christian principle that man must be changed first; while M. Daniel-Rops points out that the neglect of Christians has made the way easy for Marxism and urges Christians to bestir themselves into an activity more in accordance with their profession before it is too late. The whole work is admirably dispassionate and is the most lucid and fair confrontation of Marxism and Catholic teaching that has appeared for a long time.-Dust jacket. 294 pp. CONDITION: Hardbound brown boards, sound binding, entitled in green print on spine; tape bottom of spine.
