Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Good condition. Wear to book corners and edges. A few foxing spots on preliminary pages. Body text and binding are still very good. For the first time, a historian tells the true story of the notorious bushranger, Ben Hall (1837-1865), proving, with facts and figures, that the romantic im…age built up around this villain over one hundred years is completely false. The book, packed with fine detail, clearly shows that the truth is far more interesting and exciting than the thousands of words of fiction that have been written previously about this colonial criminal. Careful research reveals much about Hall's early life and his involvement in unlawful activities, while the illustrations include every known photograph of the bushranger and his immediate family. Likewise, the firearms used during this period are covered in detail, both in illustrations and in writing. In all, a fascinating study of one of the most notorious figures from that period of history, which has become known as Australia's wild colonial days.

Paperback quarto, very good condition, thin card covers, black cloth spine, black & white drawings, adverts, light crease rear cover, minor edgewear, autograph (author's written dedication title page). 83 pp. Edgar F. Penzig provides a comprehensive illustrated description of most of the costumes, artifacts and weapons used by c…olonial women during Australia's wild colonial days. Consists of a series of stories, arranged loosely from 1850 to 1900, recreating mental pictures of these colourful and turbulent times. This book is deliberately not set out in specific chapters, but presented more like a colonial collage of the period between 1850 and 1900. This is the history (in photos and prose) of women who by their efforts were equally responsible as the colonial male in developing and building the country of Australia during its formative years. (Autograph dedication states: Best Wishes, Edgar Penzig.).
