Half-Leather. Condition: Poor. First Edition. Half-leather binding. First edition in two volumes - Volume I from 1854 and Volume II from 1855. Both volumes have very badly damaged spines. Volume I has some loss with the remainder of the surface chipped and torn with pieces likely to come off. Volume II is in better shape with tearing and chipping to the top half. Title panels long gone. The boards are worn with fraying to the edges and some staining to the front panel of the first volume. The page edges are a little worn. Brown endpapers with the owner's bookplates to the pastedowns. Quite heavy staining to the first 150 or so pages in the first volume with some warping to these pages and page 15 is detached with creasing to the edges. Staining and warping at the back of this volume as well. Volume II is in better shape with only some spotting in places. Both volumes have quite heavy spotting to the half-title page and frontispece and also quite heavy spotting to all the illustrations. First printing. Heavy item due to the two volumes so there will be an additional postage charge for overseas orders. Doyle, Richard (illustrator).
