Soft cover. Condition: Very Good ++. First Thus. SUBTITLED : ` By Kayak to Adventure and Discovery '. The author undertook a kayak trip alone from Waterhen Lake, Saskatchewan to Pine River Settlement, to Stanley Mission to Cumberland House, Manitoba. The year was 1974 (?), though he doesn't say. He had studied the stories of the old fur-trade voyageurs from his native Czechoslovakia. The journey was plagued by moose, treacherous waters, rainstorms and MOSTLY loneliness and uncertainty. There was a major interruption, but you'll READ about that. LEARN more about : midges, moose, skiffs, Beauval, Lac Ile-a-la-Crosse, Amisko-sipiy, kickers, Drum Rapids, Knee Rapids, Crooked Rapids, the Dipper, Belanger, Frog Portage, and Gib McEachern. 185 pages with a section of b/w photos at center and a 3 page BIBLIO at back. Cond : Paper wrapper is black with white lettering. Author's photo on back, wrap-around colour photo of a northern river on front. Some corners sli. soft. rubbed or creased. Edges fine. SPINE fine, binding tight, colours bright. No marks, tears nor stains. EXCELLENT reading copy. Almost giftable . Quote (p. 46) : " The river swirled and tugged on shredded branches. Then I was sudenly among the high sweepers, sucked towards the rapids. It was impossible to return against the current, so I desparately tried to land. The kayak rose and fell in the murderous waves, and I beat with the wild paddle thrusts of a man fighting ._._._. ." Size: 8vo. B/W Photographs (illustrator).
