Lithographed and Printed by Ernest Nister in Bavaria. Nister a wunderkind of the publishing business and inventor of the moving pop-up book. 84 pp. title page has 1.5in. wrinkle at top.

1st edition softback with french flaps As New quarto 272pp., colour & b/w plates, bibliog., index, 'Westall (1781-1850) travelled with Matthew Flinders who was searching for an antipodean Arcadia (1801-1805). he completed 140 watercolours and this book analyses them 'in the context of Westall's life and work and in relation to colonial society and Australian visual culture.

Still an attractive copy of this look at the empresario grant made by the Republic of Texas that despite its lack of success ".initiated a stream of migration from the Ohio River Valley to North Texas which continued for several decades.".
