Hardcover / Publisher's Origin. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (Thus). Octavo (8vo). A highly scarce, definitive work of 19th-century Temperance and Prohibition reform literature. Written as an award-winning prize essay, Parsons provides an extensive medical, social, and Biblical analysis dismantling the defense of intoxicating liquors. An important survivor detailing the religious social crusades of the Victorian era.Condition Report:Exterior: Bound in the publisher's original blind-stamped olive/slate green cloth. The spine retains its original gilt-stamped lettering block with light, uniform fading. The edges and extremities show mild shelf rubbing and light bumping to the corners, but overall it has excellent structural integrity.Interior: The text block is tightly bound and holding firm. Pages show standard age-toning and faint foxing restricted mostly to the introductory leaves and flyleaves. Generally a clean, solid copy free of modern marginalia.
