Catalogue of an exhibition devoted to American sculptor Louis Mueller (b. 1943) held at the Helen Drutt Gallery, New York, September 12-October 21, 1989. "A sense of anticipation encompasses Louis Mueller's new work. It is the thing experienced in the work. It is as though when we see a particular sculpture, we have caught it in motion, interrupted its play, and our presence has frozen it; we have stumbled upon it, and its play is dead, only to carry on once our backs our turned. We could swear it was moving, but it is not. Out of the corners of our eyes, it teases us; in a dead stare it will not budge. It is this sense of anticipation which makes the work move. Indeed it is what makes Louis Mueller move." (From Introduction).
