Elle le félicite de son grand succès dans Falstaff, de Verdi, et exprime les…regrets du public viennois suite à l'annulation du concert que Maurel devait donner à Vienne l'hiver suivant. L'essentiel de la lettre est un plaidoyer en faveur de La Fiancée vendue, de Bedřich Smetana, qu'elle qualifie de « petit chef-d'oeuvre », demandant à Maurel d'user de son influence auprès de Léon Carvalho, de l'Opéra-Comique. Elle a déjà essayé de sensibiliser la comtesse Greffulhe à cette cause. Elle suggère à Maurel d'interprêter le rôle principal, qui serait un « nouveau fleuron à sa couronne ». Elle termine en citant des admirateurs de cette oeuvre, les chefs d'orchestre Hans Richter (1843-1916), Wilhelm Jahn (1835-1900), Felix Mottl (1856-1911) et Hermann Levi (1839-1900). Très belle lettre [450].

Der Deutsche Kaiser Wilhelm II. hat 1913 mit ihm eine Wette um 3 Flaschen Sekt abgeschlossen, daß der Termin Juni 1914 nicht eingehalten werden könne. Zur termingerechten Eröffnung meldete der Geheime Oberbaurat die Schleusen klar und erhielt daraufhin die 3 Flaschen Sekt von Seiner Majestät. Die Solltiefe von 11m auf ganzer Länge wurde allerdings erst 1915 erreicht.).

Giffard was a French engineer, who created a few models of balloons, and who also managed to create navigable ones. The 1878 hot air…balloon was located in the Tuileries. For a fee, visitors could enter its gondola and admire the view of the city. The balloon could go up to about half a mile. After the original drawing by Henri Louis Scott (1846-1884) and Jules Férat (1892-1906).
