Harrigan is known as one of the founding fathers of modern American musical theater whose productions of multi-act plays incorporated physical comedy with singing and dancing. Having separated from Hart in the meantime, by 1886 Harrigan's comedic play "The Leather Patch", also with songs by David Braham, opened at the Park Theatre in New York City on February 15, 1886.The late 19th century American stage actress Marie Burroughs (1866-1926) played prominent roles in many plays. The American theatrical manager Albert Marshman Palmer (1838-1905) was well known in the theatrical world as A.M.
