21 x 14cm. Paperback, 56pp. Well-produced artists' book with illustrations, many of which are tipped-in and in colour. Short introductory text in English by Maureen Olga Paley, with slightly longer German text by Roger Willemsen. Includes a loose exhibition invite card bearing a handwritten address, in German, and the book's front endpaper is inscribed (but not signed) to a collector in an unknown hand (possibly either the artist, or a contributor). Rare. Copac locates one copy only at UAL, London. Michaela Melian is an artist and musician known for her multimedia installations, radio plays and sound work. She is co-founder of the band F.S.K. who took their name from the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft film age-rating organisation. The band members were also contributors and editors for underground magazine Mode und Verzweiflung [Fashion and Despair], and the group became associated with the avant-garde fringes of the German New Wave of the early 1980s, and later with techno and house music. Much of Melian's artwork deals with themes of German Nazism and its aftereffects. Covers a little sunned, otherwise very good condition.
