Esemplare in ottime condizioni di conservazione, freschissimo, grandi margini, pregiato dall'aggiunta di 9 bellissime tavole fuori testo, verosimilmente provenienti da una successiva edizione callimachea, disegnate e incise dal grande incisore Filippo Pistrucci e da Gaetano Zancon, a illustrare il poeta e gli dei degli «Inni» (Zeus, Apollo, Artemide, Latona e il suo parto presso l'isola di Delo, Atena, Demetra raffigurata anche sotto forma di Minerva). All'occhietto e all'ultima pagina bianca timbri di censura del prof. Giuseppe Mercanti censore della Diocesi di Modena e del prof. Giovanni Bianchi censore degli Stati Estensi. Ex libris al contropiatto anteriore «Biblioteca Caproni». Minimi segni d'usura a testa e piede del dorso della legatura, alla parte alta della cerniera anteriore e all'angolino anteriore basso. L'opera fu appositamente stampata da Bodoni, con grande cura ed eleganza, per le nozze della principessa di Parma. La versione italiana è per opera del padre carmelitano Luca Antonio Pagnini (1737-1814), grecista insegnante a Parma e Pisa, particolarmente apprezzato proprio per le sue traduzioni di gusto neoclassico. «Si può dire che sia un libro nel quale Bodoni volle fare degli esperimenti» (Brooks, p. 84): l'editore, infatti, per l'occasione impresse quattro edizioni, differenti per il formato e per i caratteri impiegati. Una in folio grande, «adornata da 1 vignetta e 17 testate dell'Epithalamia» (Brooks, Edizione bodoniane, n. 440); una in folio grande, in caratteri unciali (Brooks, n. 441); una in folio piccolo ducale (Brooks, n. 442); e una in 4° reale, eseguita con altri caratteri minuscoli, corrispondente al presente esemplare (Brooks, n. 443). Nella prima ed ultima carta, due incisioni a piena pagina, entrambe assai belle e raffiguranti maschere teatrali di gusto neoclassico: la prima è di Giuseppe Baldrighi (1723-1802), pittore di Corte a Parma dopo il soggiorno a Parigi; la seconda di Benigno Bossi (1727-1797), incisore comasco che teneva la cattedra in Parma (dove decorò fra l'altro a stucco il palazzo ducale). Incisione al fronte, fregi tipografici. Testo latino a fronte della traduzione italiana in endecasillabi sciolti, opera notevole del pistoiese Pagnini (1737-1814; nel 1755 vestì l'abito dei Carmelitani come "Giuseppe Maria") cui era affidata la cattedra di greco e latino nella città. Il linguaggio musicale e composto del Pagnini contribuì non poco al successo dello stile neoclassico in Italia; l'influsso che esercitò perfino sul Foscolo delle "Grazie" è un dato acquisito dalla critica.
