The First World War made impossible the continuance of the publication of a catalogue of accessions year by year, and it has seemed sensible to describe all the accessions of MSS. Top. Oxon. from 1916 onwards together in one volume." His fascinating study of 'Coats of Arms in Berkshire Churches' was published in parts in the journal from Vol. 39, Part 1. (Spring, 1935) to Vol. 45, Part I, 1941. This is an incomplete set, lacking the part from volume 39, No. 2. This fascinating study of the 'Coats of Arms in Berkshire Churches' provides an accurate record and description of heraldic designs with accompanying short historical and genealogical notes. Originally publishing annual reports and transactions, in 1889 it began to publish the Quarterly Journal of the Berkshire Archaeological and Architectural Society. The following volumes have been rebound in a full cloth binding (lacking the original paper wraps), signed by Spokes to the front pastedown with additional alternating blanks for note taking, featuring copious notes by the author: Vol 35, No. 1. Spring 1931; [Vol 35, No. 2]; [Vol 36, No. 1]; [Vol 36, No. 2]; [Vol 37, No. 1]; [Vol 38, No. 1]; [Vol 39, No. 1]. The part of this work are held in three lovely custom clamshell slipcases, each featuring a crushed morocco spine label with gilt stamped titles. In the publisher's original card wraps, or rebound in full cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with minor shelfwear to extremities. Occasional slight loss to spine labels of rebound cloth volumes. Slight age toning to extremities of occasional paper wraps. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned to extremities but very bright and clean. Author's ink inscription to front pastedown of occasional volume. Extensive ink or pencil inscription by prior owner to the odd volume. Very Good Indeed. Various (illustrator). signed by author. book.
