About the book >.>.> Britten: War Requiem Op. 66 Vocal Score is a…significant musical work that combines the composition of Benjamin Britten with the poetry of Wilfred Owen. This vocal score presents a deeply reflective interpretation of the themes of war and loss as articulated through Owen's poignant poetry. The War Requiem, originally composed for the dedication of the Coventry Cathedral in 1962, serves as a powerful commentary on the human cost of conflict. The text interweaves Latin liturgical elements with Owen's notable poems, creating a unique juxtaposition between the sacred and the secular. Through this vocal score, readers and performers can explore the complex emotions stemming from war, grief, and remembrance. The meticulous scoring invites performers to engage not only with the music but also with the underlying themes present in Owen's writings, allowing them to convey the depths of human experience during times of strife. This vocal score is an essential resource for choirs, musicians, and scholars interested in Britten's oeuvre and Owen's literary contributions. It offers an opportunity for in-depth study and performance, providing vital insights into the intersection of music and literature during a pivotal historical context. The work commands attention not only for its artistic merit but also for its emotional resonance, making it a significant piece for both performance and academic exploration.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - If there be any subject that can bring the multitudes to poetic expression it must certainly be war. This was definitely true of the First World War. Among its poets, Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfrid Owen most assuredly rank at the top. Winner of the military cross, English Captain Siegfried S…assoon's poetry is heralded for its brutal realism and its satirizing of overly patriotic pro-war rhetoric. Wilfrid Owen would meet his mentor, Sassoon, at the Craiglockhart War Hospital and follow in Sassoon's footsteps in lyrically relating the horrors of trench life. Owen died just one week before the final armistice. His poems come to us in several collected volumes, the first of which is included in this anthology. Further poems by Ivor Gurney, Isaac Rosenberg, Vera Brittain, Rupert Brooke, Alan Seeger, Robert Graves, Charles Sorley, Edgell Rickword, and others, are gathered here in this anthology. Together these poems provide a diverse perspective of the war seen through the eyes of the people who faced it in service to their country. In sharp contrast to the great loss which produced it, these lines stand as an enduringly beautiful testament to the war to end all wars. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.

There is a short, closed, marginal tear to page 15. The spine (and the edges of the back board) are partially faded (as is often the case) and there is a tiny tear at the head of the spine. Photogravure portrait frontispiece with tissue guard which shows some age-related tanning. About VG. No D/W.
