Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the mathematical modeling of outbreaks of Douglas-fir tussock moths. These moths have a significant impact on the ecosystem of western North America. The author, who led their research team, details each stage of their research, including the creation of models for different aspects of the problem and the subsequent validation of those models. The main model, designed to track outbreaks, simulates the changes in the insect population over time, the defoliation caused by the insects, and the effect of defoliation on the trees. Through the study of these models, the author provides deeper insights into the behavior of the Douglas-fir tussock moth, making this book a valuable resource for other researchers and those interested in population ecology and forest health. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
