Scheele, AKRON BEACON JOURNAL (circa early 1940s), and Omar Ranney, the CLEVELAND PRESS (circa 1935), loose pages in a green leatherette scrapbook with an embossed windmill, each clipping with an illustration (drawn by Alfred Miller) or a photograph. ITEM CONDITION: fair. Each page contains 3-4 clippings glued to rough stock paper, chipping along edges, loose pages. 11 ¼ x 8, 36 pages, 9 ounces. XX William E. Scheele wrote hundreds of short bird natural history pieces for the AKRON BEACON JOURNAL between 1938-1944. His "columns were unsigned, used simple declarative identification sentences, focused on one species per column, and often included feeding habits." They were accompanied by drawings by Alfred Miller and appeared in the Outdoors/Nature Notes section of the newspaper, which had readers mainly in northeastern Ohio. From 1940 to 1944 he focused on "marsh and wetland" birds.
