Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. O'Flaherty (1901-1959), born outside Westport, was a member of The Society of African Missions. A printer by training, from 1929 to 1934 he served as a missionary in Nigeria (which provided inspiration for some of the poems) and on his return to Ireland in 1934 he was appointed Editor of the SMA's publication, African Missionary, published monthly, a function he performed until 1952. He was also an accomplished artist; an example of his draftsmanship can be seen in the drawing on the final end paper. A copy of an obituary is tipped in. Bright, unmarked and tightly bound.
