In 287 pages with an Introduction by the author + a glossy Frontis & 2 intern…als by illustrator Charles Nuttall (unattributed). Orig. published in 1909, this is a likely First Printing of the FIRST EDITION, listing only to self in front matter & no mention of this title in rear list. With light green cloth over boards with a red/black/white design & lettering to front & spine, this 12mo is in Good+ condition: generally quite clean with some random spots & smudges, binding strong with mild cocking, hinges secure. Pages creamy white with modest, age-appropriate tanning, heavier to edges; completely unmarked save for old ownership stamp & "1911" date to ffep. Exterior shows irregular fading & overall light rubbing, pushing to heel of spine, slight bumping at both ends of spine & all corners. NO DJ (missing). One in a large series of mystery & a…dventure books originally issued by this publisher for young adult (YA) boys & girls in the early decades of the 20th century, this series was a sci-fi one in the style of the wildly popular Jules Verne (Keeline, 2000) This is a slightly later printing of the true FIRST EDITION from Cupples & Leon, 1908, listing to self in book & to book #8 on front DJ flap. In 242 pages + 10 pages of other series titles from this publisher in rear, decorative endpapers (with "This Is My Book" box empty), glossy Frontispiece by C. Nuttall. Hardcover12mo has bright rust colored cloth-covered boards stamped with black lettering to front & spine, front board showing an airship, clouds, & waterfall. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, binding strong & straight, hinges secure, paged significantly tanned, heavier around edges, but completely unmarked & still supple. A tad of rubbing to extremities. The unclipped DJ is VG-/G+, with heavier rubbing to edges of spine & flaps, many small chips, heaviest at both ends of spine; beautifully protected in new clear mylar cover for your collection!
