Joseph Everett Nourse also wrote and edited works relating to the arctic, the Suez canal, and exploration of both Arctic and Antarctic continents. PROVENANCE: William Williams Keen (1837-1932), professor of surgery at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, was a pioneer in linear craniotomy, one of the first in the United States to use x-rays in surgical diagnosis, and the first successfully to operate for meningioma.
