In 20 Fallstudien werden dann kommentierte Editionen und Untersuchungen zu ausgewählten volkssprachigen Schriftrollen vorgelegt, u.a. zum Rotulus von Mülinen, dem Osterspiel von Muri, dem Klever Totentanz, den Sangspruchrotuli aus Los Angeles, Basel, Königsberg und Antwerpen, dem Regensburger Liebesbrief sowie zu einer Reihe von Gebetsrotuli. Auf dieser Grundlage erarbeitet die Untersuchung eine Typologie des Überlieferungsträgers, durch die zeitliche, räumliche, mediale, textuelle und funktionale Zusammenhänge des Gegenstandsbereichs sichtbar werden.
