Fünf Jahre später hielt er seine ersten Vorlesungen an der Universität zu Marburg, promovierte im Jahre 1564 bei Johann Oldendorp und blieb bis 1594 als Rechtslehrer in Marburg tätig. In diesem Jahr mußte er aufgrund ehrverletztender Streitigkeiten mit seinem berühmteren Kollegen Hermann VULTEJUS seine Universitätslaufbahn beenden und den Lehrstuhl aufgeben.

Seine Überlegung war, daß vor allem die ungeordneten Digesten die Wurzel allen Übels seien. Eine auf das damalige Recht, vor allen auf die Gerichtsbedürfnisse bezogenes, neu geordnetes Corpus iuris civilis würden die Probleme bewältigen können.

Mit zum Teil satirischen Mitteln plädiert er in diesem Zusammenhang für eine Rückbesinnung auf die klassischen Werte der römischen Rechtsphilosophie.
