This copy hails from the library of Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65), Illinois governor and twice a presidential candidate. The front flyleaf bears his large, boldly penciled full ownership signature, belong which he wrote "Page 145/481." On page 145 his five-page chapter, "'I Do Not Think Myself Fit for the Presidency': The Election of 1860,: begins, and he's placed a slip of paper (titled "Waldorf Astoria Memorandum") with his initials penciled at the top of the paper slip and with checkmarks penciled on each of the other four pages.
