Mr. Newman earned both a B.A. and B.S.E.E. from Columbia and an M.B.A. from Harvard. He subsequently worked at Thompson-Ramo-Wooldridge (TRW). Derived from the Preface: This work is a plea for preparedness. The original basis for this work was a year-long research project undertaken in 1957-1958 at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. The authors were fascinated by the topic of the control of thermonuclear energy: the harnessing of the power of the hydrogen bomb and of the stars for peaceful purposes. The examination of the implications of controlling thermonuclear reactions convinced the authors that here was an energy source of unbelievable import. Having undertaken this task, the authors may their position crystal clear at the outset. This book is admittedly biased and their personal beliefs and opinions are reflected in the conclusions and recommendations made in this seminal work. The authors believe that their facts are accurate and correct and they take full responsibility for their interpretation of these facts.
