First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Illustrations by William Neebe (illustrator). 1st Edition. So schooling in America isn't all about statist socialization and conditioning? Here Dr. Frances R. Horwich -- "Miss Frances" of NBC's "Ding Dong School" and "one of the country's foremost educators" -- tells us "The purpose of this story is to help children develop a genuine friendship with the policeman, so they will learn to respect him and turn to him for help when in need." Our oddly nameless and anonymized policeman (though he does appear to be Irish-American), is depicted here as wearing no sidearm, oddly enough (nor is a revolver shown with his badge, cap, whistle and nightstick to title page.) Where in this lesson plan were the kids informed "If daddy ever worked for Donald Trump, you can expect the brave officers to tap your phone, "recommend" that their bank close your parents' bank account, break down your door before dawn, threaten you with machine pistols, and haul you out for the neighbors to see wearing just your pajamas . . . or nothing at all. Then they'll steal your kiddie computer"? How about: "If the police get called to your house, their new policy is they have to arrest SOMEBODY; it's likely to be daddy (unless he's armed, in which case they'll shoot him); and if there's a 'social worker' with them you yourself are likely to quickly learn all about the wonders of something called 'foster care', in which kids are statistically more likely to die than if mommy was a crack whore"? An artifact from a vanished world . . . if it ever existed. Some of the silver covering missing from head and tail of spine, but this little "Ding Dong School Book" remains "very good" with no crayon marks, no scribbling, no PON. Edition not stated, but no later printings or dates mentioned. 28 un-numbered pages. Reduced from $26.
