Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Natalie Dower (illustrator). 1st Edition. Texts by Dr Alan Fowler and Mel Gooding. 28 x 23 cm. 160pp with 155 colour images. Line of Enquiry: A Constructivist Artist in Context is a survey of the work of the British artist Natalie Dower, which spans her emergence from the Slade in 1954 to 2012. Describing Dower?s development from figurative traditions to a form of abstract work derived from the exploration of mathematical systems the book traces the history of the British Systems movement through the work of this highly individual artist. Dr Alan Fowler?s text places Dower?s work in the context of Systems artists such as Malcolm Hughes and Jeffrey Steele and traces how her distinctive form of geometric abstraction in two and three dimensions was influenced by her move to Europe in the mid 1960s. Dower has participated in many of the major exhibitions that have examined Systems Art, including Colour and Systems ? the Arts Council touring exhibition of 1986 ? and Counter vail at the Mappin Gallery, Sheffield and Mead Gallery, Coventry (1992?1993). Her work is held in public collections including the Arts Council, the Government Art Collection and the Mondriaanhuis Holland.
