WPSA from paper mill is used as partial replacement of ordinary Portland cement in mortar. The study involves four replacement levels of WPSA into OPC at 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. Tests were conducted to explore the characteristics and properties of WPSA in mortar at fresh and hardened states. The mortar cubes were cast and were cured for 7 days, 14 days and 28 days to explore the strength development of the mortar. It is concluded that addition of WPSA at 5 percent of cement helps the mortar to achieve the higher compressive strength at 7 curing days. Use of WPSA is feasible to be used as an additive in mortar and would help to increase the compressive strength of mortar at early stage. 52 pp. Englisch.

Water is an essential ingredient in concrete. The temperature of water changes according to the weather. This creates special challenges in the concrete production especially at hot climatic. Hence, there are more obstacles to overcome when using hot water to produce concrete. The effect of water temperature during casting and curing of concrete on concrete properties have been studied. Concrete samples were prepared and cured under different water temperature and the properties of concrete tested. The tests include slump, compressive strength, rebound hammer, UPV, and water absorption. From the analysis of test results, it was found that higher water temperature used during concrete mixing reduced the overall strength and other properties of concrete. Addition of hot water while mixing leads to further the defects and failure in the hardened state at 28 days, but high early strength. It is concluded that concrete should be prepared by using the water temperature in the range between 20°C to 35°C under room temperature in order to get optimum performance. 88 pp. Englisch.

Although a fly ash content of less than 25% of the total cementitious content is routinely used in concrete. This thesis presents an assessment of high volume fly ash concrete using thermal power plant fly ash at replacement levels of 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 percent of cement with constant w/cm ratio of 0.45. Tests were performed on fresh and hardened concrete to determine their properties in terms of workability, strength and durability. The study discloses that incorporation of high volume of fly ash in concrete improves the quality of concrete and enhances its performance in terms of workability, strength and long term durability. 72 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -During the manufacturing of steel billets in the steel mills, iron oxide is formed as a flaky surface on the billets due to the hot rolling and cooling down process of the steel. Industrially, this surface is called billet scale. It is an industrial solid waste. In this study, billet scale is used as sand partial replacement in concrete. Six different percentage replacement of billet scale were used in this study. Concrete made with various percentages of billet scale were cured in two different mediums for the durability assessment, namely fresh water and water with higher salinity. Irrespective of curing age and curing medium, it was found out that 15% replacement of billet scale with fine aggregate is the optimum content. It was also found out that the billet scale proportion replacement is directly proportional to concrete slump and fresh density. Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) increased with increase in strength. However, UPV stabilized with age of concrete, and, it was higher fresh water cured mixtures compared to those cured in saline water. 84 pp. Englisch.
