Inmensidad intima. Objetos cargados de la presencia de personas, personajes y lugares sagrados, conforman la exposicion Santuarios de lo intimo. Retrato en miniatura y relicarios. La coleccion de Museo Soumaya. El genero del retrato fue el que de manera sensible ocupo a los miniaturistas. Conservado muchas veces en un estuche precioso, paso a ser una pieza de joyeria, un objeto que se porta a manera de alhaja y que guarda tambien un sentimiento de anoranza. Durante la Edad Media, a lo que hoy nombramos miniaturas se llamo "historias", y a lo realizado por Hilliard, el mas celebre de los miniaturistas ingleses del siglo XVI, se le conocia como "cuadros en pequeno". Miniaturas tempranas, estan las del pintor frances Jean Clouet. La historia del arte sabe tambien de pinturas en formatos pequenos hechas por grandes artistas como Holbein el Joven, Van Dyck, Fragonard, Bayeu, Velazquez, Murillo y Goya. Durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII America experimento, como Europa, un florecimiento de esta delicada forma de expresion. La coleccion de Museo Soumaya conserva obras de notables autores miniaturistas como Amelie Daubigny, Samuel Drummond, Rose Emma Drummond, Hippolite Chapon, Verger, Btalti, Jose Maria Fuentes, Jose Francisco Rodriguez, Jose Maria Estrada, Francisco Cabrera, Francisca Salazar, Maria de Jesus Ponce de Ibarraran, asi como esplendidos anonimos europeos y americanos.
