Primera edición española de esta obra escrita originalmente en italiano por…el erudito jesuita Luis Antonio Muratori, considerado el padre de la historiografía italiana; se mostró además como un activo partícipe en las polémicas civiles de su tiempo desde el bando de la Ilustración, defendiendo el valor de la educación, la ciencia y el reformismo. De estas preocupaciones se ocupa en esta obra La Pública Felicidad objeto de los buenos príncipes, el último libro que escribió, dedicado a la filosofía política "Tratado excelente, donde se exponen prácticamente quantos (sic) medios pueden facilitar los progresos en ciencias y artes, comercio e industria, fábricas y oficios: obra que debía ser el pasto diario de la lectura de los Príncipes, de sus ministros, y de sus consejeros" (prólogo, pp. liv). Palau anota que la traducción del italiano se debe a Pascual Arbuxach. Los preliminares contienen una biografía de la vida de Muratori y un catálogo crítico cronológico de sus obras. A pesar de no haber pasado nunca en las Indias, Muratori escribió su ensayo Cristianesimo felice nelle missioni de' padri della Compagnia di Gesù nel Paraguay (1743-1749) en el que apoya la labor de los jesuitas en América, obra estimada por los muchos documentos que contiene, de indiscutible valor para el estudio de las misiones en Paraguay. Perfecto ejemplar, muy bien impreso sobre fuerte papel. Referencias: Palau 185933 207x143mm. (8¼x5¾").
