1st Edition, 4to (25.5cm), 16pp. Brown cloth, plain yellow enpapers. Bookplate with coloured coat of arms of Thomas Irvine, Glenhuntly, with an ink inscription below: 'Copy of Coat of Arms ogranted to Thomas Irvine, Glen Huntly, Liverpool by the Lyon King of Arms, Register House, Edinburgh, 21st December 1899'. Gift inscription (in the same same hand) to free endpaper: 'To Edith Mary Irvine, from her father Tho[mas] Irvine'. Loosely inserted is a copy of a photograph of the owner with a brief biography. Excellent condition. a few small marks to cloth. No foxing. Curious browning to fly-leaf with imaging of inscriptions and bookplate. Otherwise very clean throughout. The Irvine family tree on the last leaf has an ink correction, presumably in the owner's hand. A fine copy of a rare Scottish family history with interesting provenance. Thomas Irvine J.P. (1818-1907) was head of the Liverpool stockbrokers firm in Liverpool, T. and T.G. Irvine in India Buildings and was a Justice of the Peace. He was the first resident of Glen Huntly house (also called Glen Huntley). His daughter Edith was born in 1872. The only copy of this work I can trace is held by the National Library of Scotland.
