Not much info about publisher or location in the book. Red fold out illustration to the front is present. Muddock also known as "Joyce Emmerson Preston Muddock" and "Dick Donovan" was a prolific British journalist and author of mystery, horror and science fiction. The Sunless City is rumoured to be the inspiration for the naming of Flin Flon, Manitoba. Published in 1997 ?

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. Published in London in 1889, this is a very scarce and sought after Victorian short story collection of Horror & Supernatural stories. This example was originally the property of Fulham Conservative Club Member's Lending Library, with their library bookplate to front pastedown, no further library marks within, the book has been rebound in cloth probably at the time it was in the lending library. The cloth is very worn and faded with splits along spine edges and loss at spine ends, internally there are occasional mild handling and other marks within, three pages (pictured) had been strengthened along inner edges with tape (now removed) this has left brown staining to those inner page edges, a couple of the gatherings are standing slightly proud of the text block, else in acceptable condition.

Cloth. Condition: VG. 1st. Account of the London Special Constabulary during WW1 and in particular the Zeppelin Raids on London. 122pp, portrait frontis, foldout maps. VG clean copy in original beige cloth boards.

Octavo, original yellow cloth with black lettering, 122 pp., with a frontispiece portrait of Sir Edward Ward and a double-sided folding map of bomb damage in London and elsewhere in England. Cloth a bit thumbed and spotted, internally quite fresh, overall a pleasing copy. An uncommon account of the London Special Constabulary, signed by the author on the front endpaper. The Special Constables were assigned with keeping public order during the zeppelin raids of the First War.

The hugely prolific author of Mystery, Detective,and Horror stories in the Strand who for a time rivalled Sherlock Holmes, turns his attention to Derbyshire Bakewell and the history of Haddon Hall. It was followed in 1907 with "Did Dorothy Vernon elope ?" a rejoinder to G Le Blanc Smith 's book on Haddon Hall [1906] A particularly nice copy.

An espionage mystery featuring one of Donovan's returning characters Michael Danevitch; writing prolifically in the mystery and detective fiction genre, Donovan's works at one point rivalled Arthur Conan Doyle's in popularity.
