Seller: Forgotten Books, London, United Kingdom
Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the lives, styles, and impact of the Troubadours, Provencal poets active from the end of the eleventh century to the middle of the fourteenth. The Troubadours, active in a time of ignorance and feudal chaos, were pivotal to the development of modern literature and the very notion of "courtly love". Their songs of Gallantry, History, and social commentary are crucial to our understanding of the values and experiences of the European middle ages, and would have a substantial influence on other European literatures, particularly the English, Spanish and Italian. Despite their enormous influence on our world, the Troubadours suffered significant neglect for centuries, but this book, as the latest work from a notable scholar, aims to restore them to their rightful place as innovators and central figures in European literary history. Through the book, the author presents a rich and nuanced perspective on these poets and their works, exploring the sociopolitical context that informed their art while offering critical analysis on their profound influence on the development of the modern world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
