Add to basketFull-Leather. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Three volumes, bound in mid-century half-leather over watered cloth boards, with gilt spine including "GH" monogram within a circular garter (for Gervas Holmes). Speckled edges. 12mo. xvi,347;iv,395;iv,353pp. No half-title in Vol. I. Author's inscription to original flyleaf, follo…wed by later family provenance, author's name added to first title-page, a typographical correction in ink to one page in Vol. I, and date to end of text in final volume. Mild rubbing, toning, staining, as well as some slight foxing to flyleaves. Otherwise a clean, tight and unmarked set -- very neat, sound and handsome. This would be one of the final publications of John Macrone, the momentarily prominent publisher/printer of Dickens, Ainsworth, and others, who met a premature death at the age of 28 [see John Macrone: The Life of Sir Walter Scott (Edinburgh, 2013)]. Arthur Mower himself was a physician and curator of the Royal College Museum, and a sometime author. Signed by Author(s). Book.
