HC. 382 [2] pp, fold-out map, B&W Photographs Dutch edition, likely first edition, covering the Everest expedition from rist to third attempt to reach the top, with the tragic death of George Mallory and Andrew Irvine who disappeared without a trace for 75 years. Only in 1999 was Mallory's corpse found and identified. We may never know for certain whether Mallory and Irvine reached the top. Black cloth over board, gilt titles, t.e.r. Faint foxing of prelims, ca. 5cm of cloth in fold of back panel torn but, binding firm.
