Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st printing in wrappers. 1st (and only) printings. Quarto wrappers with a clear plastic front cover except volumes 7 & 8. Most volumes had a pagination of just over 100 pages except for volume 17 which is a whopping 265+ pages. Each page is printed a small font size, so there are almost countless thousands of entries of Western books, maps, and documents gleaned from dozens and dozens of Western Americana booksellers (your bookseller included) who issued catalogues before the Internet era for rare book sources had done much more than given birth. Tens of thousands of entries. Most with indices in the back for Howes U.S.-iana entries NOT in alphabetical sequence, and indices of U.S. Gov. documents chronologically, and also maps the same. As I noted in the other Morrison guides for sale here of general Western Americans, it is unfathomable to me that the Morrisons did such time consuming and intricately detailed work to put these together. They were not inexpensive, but they were essential then. Yes, we have the Internet now, but for the developing younger bookseller for certain, and maybe still some of us older folks, an in-print set of this nature may represent, over time, a solid and useful investment. All vg to fine condition.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st printing in wrappers. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 1st and only printings except possibly for Volume 1. Published annually 1987 through 1998. (not including Texana, which were published separately, and 11 issues which we offer for sale. All copies except volume 1, which was published in the binder, are in quarto wrappers with a clear plastic front cover. Most volumes had a pagination of around 200 pages. Each page is printed a small font size, so there are almost countless thousands of entries of Western books, maps, and documents gleaned from dozens and dozens of Western Americana booksellers (your bookseller included) who issued catalogues before the internet era for rare book sources had done much more than given birth. In most of the volumes there were 18,000 or 19,000 entries in alphabetical order by author, which adds up to around 215,000 entries. Some volumes had indices in the back for Howes U.S.-iana entries NOT in alphabetical sequence, and indices of U.S. Gov. documents chronologically, and also maps the same. This is, I am quite sure, a complete set as I purchased the volumes every year as long as they were issued. It is still unfathomable to me that the Morrisons-the last few years Shelly as lone editor-did such time consuming and intricately detailed work to put these together. They were not inexpensive, but they were essential then. Yes, we have the internet now, but for the developing younger bookseller for certain, and maybe still some of us older folks, an in-print set of nature may represent over time a solid and useful investment.
