For fifty years such volumes have decorated the library tables and sitting room tables in many homes along with the family Bible. However, the home medical adviser of the past was full of scientific and hardly understandable diagrams of the human interior. It contained innumerable peculiar prescriptions which represented the superstitions of the past. It was usually written by a compiler who based his discussions on similar books that had gone before. The present volume in no way resembles these earlier tomes. It represents the assembled views of men whose names have been associated with progress in the fields they discuss. Their contributions have been rewritten and reedited in many instances to make statements easily understandable by any fairly intelligent reader. This 1956 issue gives the reader something to compare to medicine, treatments, and medications of the 21st Century. A clean very presentable copy.…
