This edition, published in 1880, records the goings-on in Canada for the year 1879, as divided into the following sections: Political History Journal of Remarkable Occurrences (o…rganized by month) Review of Literature, Science, and Art Progress of Education in the Dominion 1878-1879 Financial and Commercial Review The Militia of Canada Promotions and Appointments in the Public Service Remarkable Trials Obituary List of Books and Publications by Mr Morgan. In addition, it includes a summary of the major politicians in the various provinces for the year 1879. Included at the back of the book are a number of fascinating advertisements. The editor, Henry James Morgan (1842-1913) was a Canadian lawyer and civil servant, also known for writing profiles of famous Canadians. He was the editor of The Dominion Annual Register and Review from 1878-1886. He died in Brockville, Ontario and was declared a Person of National Historical Significance. This book is in fair condition. The major blemish is to the spine, where large piece of the fabric covering the boards has torn off, as well as a small area at the bottom. There is also staining to the front cover, which possibly looks like paint spatter. The front an back hinges are slightly cracked, but otherwise the binding is tight. This is a fascinating primary source document that provides a first-hand look at the major events in Canada in the nineteenth century.
