Study in English analyzing the iconography and text of a mid-15th-century illuminated manuscript, the 'Horloge de Sapience', housed in the Bibliothèque Royale, Brussels (MS. IV 111). Each of the 36 illuminations is discussed in detail, with reference to their pictorial traditions, the French text, and a unique contemporary commentary called the 'Declaration des hystoires'. The book includes an English translation of the 'Declaration', offering insights into 15th-century art criticism. Illustrated with a frontispiece in color and black-and-white plates. 900g.
