Caroline-Stéphanie-Félicité or Madame de Genlis (25 January 1746 31 December 1830) was a French writer of the late 18th and early 19th century, best known for her novels and theories on children's education. her devotion to religion, morality, and feminine submission, strangely contrasts with her own life and her art.

Im Palais Royal wurde sie mit der Erziehung der herzoglichen Kinder beauftragt. Eine Aufgabe, die sie 9 Jahre lang erfüllte. Madame de Genlis schrieb viele erzieherische Weke, in denen sie ihre Methoden erläuterte und auf den Nutzen des praktischen und auf Anschauung basierenden Unterrichts aufmerksam machte. Sie selbst war viel in der Natur und beobachtete die Pflanzen. So wurde die Gattung der fleischfressenden Pflanzen Genlisea (Reusenfallen) nach ihr benannt. Mme de Genlis sympatisierte mit der Revolution, musste aber dennoch Frankreich meiden, machte Reisen in die Schweiz und nach Deutschland und kehrte unter dem Konsulat nach Frankreich zurück. Napoleon bewilligte ihr eine Pension, und der Herzog von Orléans gab ihr unter der Restauration ein Gnadengehalt. - Viele ihrer Prosawerke gerieten in die Vergessenheit oder mangeln der historischen Genauigkeit, weshalb sie heute kaum mehr Beachtung finden. - (Einbde. etwas berieben. Mme De Genlis [1746-1830] born near Autun and was a woman of "encyclopedic information with a mania for instructing others." She "captivated" society after marrying the Comt…e De Genlis, and became governess to the children of the Duchesse de Chatres; teaching them about the novel while writing and producing plays for their entertainment. Her husband was the first of the Girondins beheaded in 1793 (a fate subsequently shared by her lover Philippe-Egalite.) After the death of her husband she emigrated to England and Switzerland, where she supported herself by writing. "She lived on through the Restoration.one of the great ladies of the 18th century. She was an inexhaustible writer of popular romances which combined sentiment and sensation, morals and history." The above recounts the ill-fated romance between Jeanne de France, younger daughter of Louis XI, and Louis, duc d'Orleans, son of Charles, duc D' Orleans and Marie de Cleves.

Erstausgabe. - Stéphanie Félicité Ducrest de Saint-Aubin, Comtesse de Genlis, Marquise de Sillery…(1746-1830) war eine französische Hofdame und Schriftstellerin. Im Palais Royal wurde sie mit der Erziehung der herzoglichen Kinder beauftragt. Eine Aufgabe, die sie 9 Jahre lang erfüllte. Madame de Genlis schrieb viele erzieherische Weke, in denen sie ihre Methoden erläuterte und auf den Nutzen des praktischen und auf Anschauung basierenden Unterrichts aufmerksam machte. Sie selbst war viel in der Natur und beobachtete die Pflanzen. So wurde die Gattung der fleischfressenden Pflanzen Genlisea (Reusenfallen) nach ihr benannt. Mme de Genlis sympatisierte mit der Revolution, musste aber dennoch Frankreich meiden, machte Reisen in die Schweiz und nach Deutschland und kehrte unter dem Konsulat nach Frankreich zurück. Napoleon bewilligte ihr eine Pension, und der Herzog von Orléans gab ihr unter der Restauration ein Gnadengehalt. - Viele ihrer Prosawerke gerieten in die Vergessenheit oder mangeln der historischen Genauigkeit, weshalb sie heute kaum mehr Beachtung finden. - (Kanten minim berieben, etwas stockfleckig, schönes Exemplar).
