He studied at the distinguished Russian horn-player professor Mikhail Nikolayevich Buyanovsky. Being a versatile musician and a teacher he worked in the symphony… orchestras of Odessa and Kuybyshev. Having graduated from the Kuybyshev Pedagogical Institute and the postgraduate course of the Moscow State University, he defended his thesis. Nowadays Mititello is a Candidate of Philosophy and the reader of the Culture theory and history at the Samara University. At the same time V. L. Mititello conducts the horn class in the Academy of Culture and Arts and in the Music college in Samara. One of the most brilliant Mititello's talent manifestation is his activity as a composer. He is the author of four symphonies, chamber instrumental and choral compositions, music to theatre performances. The offered book of the etudes-characters for horn is written in 1992-1993 years. This is the first part-book of "The Album of the European Songs and Dances". Anatoly Sukhorukov (translated by Asya Ardova) FROM THE AUTHOR This book represents the series of the small pieces for horn solo. Their form is built on the base of old European songs and dances, which are disposed according to their titles in alphabetical order of the Russian alphabet. These pieces are called the etudes but not in the ordinary meaning as the compositions for working out different technical skills. However the way they are called reminds of the artistic sketches-miniatures in painting, expressing some definite state of the Artist's mind. Though each of the etudes has its own technical complications, requiring their studying, however, their main pedagogical idea is to master the musician's intellectual, artistic and imagery features. Meanwhile their performing order is absolutely free, as the etudes are not located according to the complications intensity. Hopefully, this book will be interesting not only to the young horn-players, but also to the high professionals in this sphere.
