Original publisher's printed wr…appers with titles in red to front cover and spine, front cover with repeated reproduction in relief in pink of a drawing by Ambroise Paré. A very good copy of Péret's 'Anthologie de l'Amour Sublime' with Miro's signed colour lithograph. From the édition de tête limited to 37 numbered copies on vélin du Marais with the original colour lithograph signed and numbered by Miro as frontispiece, with this one of seven hors commerce copies numbered in Roman numerals; an ordinary edition without the frontispiece was also issued. Miro's original colour lithograph, printed by Mourlot, Paris, is numbered from the edition of 40. Also included, inserted loose, is a card for 'Editions Jean-Jacques Pauvert' to be filled out and sent in order to receive the 'Catalogue Illustré'. [Cramer 35; Miro Lithographe 175].

Edition originale. Un des 15 exemplaires de tête imprimés sur Montval bleu illustrés d'une pointe-sèche et aquatinte originale de Joan Miró signée et justifiée 10/15, seuls exemplaires à comporter la gravure (avec 9 ex. sur Montval non indiqués au colophon comportant une épreuve d'artiste), le tirage courant étant limité à 100 ex. sur Le Roy sans gravure. Impression : Imprimerie des 2 Artisans, 20 rue de Montbrun, Paris 14e (texte). R. Lacouriere (gravure). Élégante reliure à décor réalisée par Georges Leroux en 1968. En parfait état. Première gravure en plusieurs couleurs donnée par Miró pour un livre, elle figure parmi ses plus belles réussites, fut tirée avec l'aide de Marcoussis, qui fut dans les années 30 l'initiateur et le guide de Miró pour ce qui est des techniques de la gravure. C'est également la gravure de Miró pour un livre d'avant guerre ayant fait l'objet du plus petit tirage. Le texte de Péret, qui avait paru la première fois dans Minotaure, n° 3/4, décembre 1933, est une savoureuse pièce de théâtre surréaliste ayant pour cadre le Palais des Papes à Avignon, mêlant des personnages historiques de toutes époques, d'Héron d'Alexandrie à Leonard de Vinci, débattant de la reproduction du mouvement au milieu de centaines d'automates, avec certains de leur inventeurs, dont le célèbre Pierre Jacquet-Droz, qui créa en 1774 un "jeune écrivain" automatique, lequel, selon Péret, écrivait sans relâche le mot "merveilleux".
