Hardcover. Condition: Very Good-. Quarterbound black leather with matching black pebbled cloth. Gilt titles on spine along with five raised bands. Some edge, corner and surface wear including one noticeable scuff (1 1/2") on the front. There are a few stamps from a convent library early in this volume but no other library indicators. This volume has no publication information. I assume that info wass in Vol. I; I see no indication that pages are missing. This is a square and securely bound volume. Half Leather. Condition: Fair. New Edition. xvi + 588pp + 6 double page colour maps. 10 x 7 inch. Block detached from boards and spine but pages still well bound together between marbled end-papers, all in nice clean condition, no names nor inscriptions, ideal for repair or rebind.

Decorative Boards. Condition: Good. First Edition. Undated publication but believed to be the first edition from the late 1850s. Previous owner's name and date (1860) to the front pastedown and the text contains references to the 1850s. The spine is faded with a little fraying to the top. Rubbing and bumping to the corners and the rear panel has three small stains towards the bottom right corner. Browning to the page edges. Browning to the pages and the edges of the text block is a little uneven - no page loosening however. The endpapers have a little marking with four words in pencil to the rear free endpaper and the webbing exposed along the hinge at the rear. Brown spotting to the pages at the front and back of the book. Small dark stain to the title page. One line of writing on the reverse of the rear free endpaper. There is a little corner creasing, a few stains and pencil notations, some spotting and a small piece torn from the bottom corner of one page but the pages are generally unmarked. First printing.

Condition: Good Plus. 1st Edition. Publisher's blind stamped brown cloth binding with gilt title and decoration to front board and spine. Wear to ends of spine, light marking to rear board. Lacking the front free endpaper. Foxing to frontis and pages 143-146. Small section of loss to upper margin of pages 143/144. A few occasional spots and small marks elsewhere. A few illustrations within the text. Scarce. Overall condition is Good Plus. Size: 4.25 x 6.75 inches (11 x 17 cm). Hardback. Printed pages: iv, 318, ii.

Cloth well soiled with random marks, wear with loss to spine tips, 4.5 cm tear to upper section of front joint, small tear & minor wear to rear joint, contents lightly age browned, sticker remains to endpapers.

There is a hand written date of 1874 and name to flyleaf. Book looks about 1850. 314 pages. Age-dulled mid-brown hadrback binding with blind impressed scrolling to front and back boards and gilt-coloured roundal to front and very dulled decoration to spine. Wear to boards' corners and spine-ends. Page-edges moderately browned, inner hinge split but binding o/w sound. Page clean.

Cloth. Condition: Good. No Jacket. ND. Blue pictorial cloth. Rubbed and bumped, some staining to boards, particularly front. Front and central gutters cracked, presentation plate to front pastedown, light foxing to closed edges, else pp generally clean and bright. Size: 8vo.

Occasional foxing to edges of engravings, with several images only themselves being lightly foxed, but never obtrusively obfuscatory. (Did I utter that?). Early-ish scientific overview ("The present volume is intended to furnish a very general view of the leading appearances of Physical Nature - the economy of the heavens and the earth-- with incidental notices of the progress of discovery, and pictorial representations of remakrble phenomena and interesting localilties.").
